Sports Day was a great success apart from the typical Scottish weather. On the Tuesday morning we had potted sports and on the Wednesday afternoon we had the traditional races, which included the obstacle race, the sack race and lots more! Kenbank were the House winners and Michael was the Boys Sports Champion. By Daisy
P7 are reading the book called ‘The Recruit’ by Robert Muchamore. They had to design an assault course for training and they designed their own Cherub t-shirts. Hamish, Jim and Michael’s assault course was chosen and we all had to complete it. It was torture!

Last week P7 class went to the Dalry Bowling Club and learned how to bowl. Hamish Sinclair is an expert bowler and runs the Spalding Bowling club in Dalry. The class goes every Wednesday and compete against each other. At the end of each session we find out who won and lost their games. At our last bowling session we will find out who has scored the most points and will win a cup.

On the 28th April 2011, as part of our Space Topic, Dalry P7 held a debate, the motion being; Space Exploration is Beneficial to Man and is Therefore Necessary. The class was split in two with one side arguing for the motion and one side arguing against it. Josh and Michael were the two clerks and Daisy was the Presiding Officer. After a lot of debating the final outcome was 13 against and 0 for the motion. Everyone enjoyed the debate and everything went according to plan.

Last week our class did a project to do with the age of the universe. First we watched a video presentation made by Dr Martin Hendry, one of the people behind this project. We looked at six main landmarks through time.
We did two activities, one was to draw the school from memory, then take a photograph and compare them. The second activity was split into two parts, one part was to use a strong magnet and a tin, then put 20g in at a time and see how much weight the magnet could lift. The second part was to walk around the school and find things that were magnetic and things that weren’t. Then on Monday Dr Martin Hendry came in to see what we had done and then we asked him lots of questions. We all had a very enjoyable time.
The whole Primary School had a competition to design your own red nose. The winners from P7 were Stuart in 1st place and Kimberly in 2nd place. Everyone had a very enjoyable day!
P7 had a very successful morning at the Galloway Music Festival last Thursday. They came second out of eight groups performing in the Group Music Making class. The pupils were congratulated on their excellent performance of ‘Interplanetary Craft’ which was praised very highly. The Adjudicator remarked upon both the ‘instrumental colour’ and effective singing; ‘you were not afraid to sing softly to add special atmosphere’. The whole class worked very hard practising for their performance and we are very grateful to Mrs Henry who spent so much time arranging the music and help us perform.
Individual Success
Two P7 pupils also performed in solo classes at the festival. Well done to Kimberly and Joseph!
